Surgery Shorts: A Micro Game

HOWEVER…

Some of the group ideas we have exceed some of the limitations we have been given:

  • Game can be no longer than 20 seconds.

This will remove any ideas with the multiplayer, as a multiplayer co-op experience will most likely take longer than 20 seconds. As time goes on we will think of ways around some of the limitations of our ideas, but right now we seem stumped on what to do on this.

A possible way around the multiplayer dilemma:

A multiplayer mode COULD be possible, just not the way we seemed to plan it to be. The way Glen pitched the idea to Kieron and I seemed as if he was wanting a co-operative style of multiplayer, however the way the project goals make it so our game cannot breach the 20 second mark to complete– meaning our co-op idea may breach this limitation.

The idea I have had to implement a multiplayer feature into the game will hopefully try to prevent the game from breaching the 20 second limit is to make the game competitive over cooperative.

The way we could make the game competitive is whoever can complete the task the fastest wins the game, therefore creating opportunity for speedruns and whoever can best their scores, improving the replay ability of the game.

Ways to expand the game and make it bigger, yet smaller, in the future:

  • So, the main game mechanic will be based upon the board game ‘Operation’, where you will be able to select a part of the body which an object is located and remove an impaling object. The way we could expand upon this is:
  • Making the parts of the body follow a sort of RNG system where any random limb can generate the object for the player(s) to operate upon.
  • Different objects to make the game more diverse, some as small as spelks and as big as a spiky piece of wood or something.
  • Being able to do an organ transplant minigame, where it includes dragging the mouse to cut open the person and replacing an organ using a similar RNG system which I discussed above.
