Radio Silence: The Imagined Worlds Project

ideas:

  • Name: ‘Radio Silence’
  • 3D
  • 100 years in the future, dystopian, post apocalypse
  • The story:
    • follows a post-apocalyptic researcher in the far future, who discovers a mysterious radio in which they are contacted by a mysterious man who claims to be short on time and needs the help of the player. This leads the player to discover the governments plot to strip the surrounding shipyards, glassworks and even settlements for resources on a new, private, riot control project.
  • first person game
  • enemies you need to fight and/or hide from
  • (ambitious) secondary stories through notes or audio logs

Location:

We have had two ideas so far for the location of where our game can take place, both sensible as they fall under the location rules of the project as well fit our current ideas well:

East Boldon Army Camp

The East Boldon Army Camp is an abandoned facility in east boldon which allegedly used to house military personnel and gear. I have visited there many times and it is the perfect spot to fit in with the metal, glass and nature theme for the north east, as well as making a wonderful spot for a dystopian wasteland feel for a game, movie or media.

The place is severely overgrown and forgotten, but maybe if we were to use this we can accelerate this even further by making it even worse.

The Angel of The North

The angel of the north is a fascinating structure… but perhaps there’s more to it than meets the eye? We could really renovate the Angel and make it more fit to the theme we are going for.

To meet our post-apocalyptic ideas, we plan to make the Angel into a Military outpost, abandoned and laid to waste. The Angel stands battered and beaten from the destructive nature of time and decay, the right wing has fallen and serves as a ramp to the structure’s base, once an icon of hope for the locals, now a remnant of the shadows of eons past, decaying and dying– but not completely dead, as deep underground, below the statue, lies a base of operatives who are secretly plotting an operation to seize all old shipyards and glassworks under settler control for their own gain: of creating a ‘riot control’ power armour suit, to serve its real purpose as a killing machine.

The Mashup:

The group could not make a solid decision on which of the two ideas to use, so we decided to blend the two together. We stuck with our original Angel of The North idea but made the features of the military outpost style reminiscent of the barracks in our first choice.

Game Design Document:

Kieron compiled this game design document, where he and I as well as the rest of the team discussed our ideas about this game and where it may go.
